フランス人フォトグラファー、ロマン・ラプラード（Romain Laprade）の作品集。2019年刊行『DISTANCES』、2022年刊行『DISTANCES VOL.II』の続編。「Vogue Paris」や「Holiday」などの雑誌でグラフィックデザイナーとして活動し始めたが、15歳の時に感じた写真への情熱を捨てきれず写真家へと転向。機微に冨み観る者の好奇心を駆り立てる画面を作り出し、一見平凡で退屈なものの細部に焦点を当てることで作者独自のイメージへと昇華している。温かなトーンや構図の感性、自然光を利用したその作品は、Louis Vuitton、Hermès、Saint Laurent、Aesopや Rimowa、Mr Porter、Isabel Marant など多くのブランドともコラボレーションを果たし、それぞれのブランドの魅力を写真で世に伝えて来た。また、デザイナーとしての経験は構図、比率や調和、イメージと空間との関係に対する感覚を磨き、写真作品にも反映されている。

太陽に照らされた海岸線、見渡す限り広がる砂漠、そして人知れず静寂を守る街の片隅を歩きながら、本作は大陸を渡り、構造と静けさとの間に生じている繊細な関係を写し出している。アメリカ西部からアフリカ、ヨーロッパ、そしてさらに遠くまで、光が面を形作る様や、いかにして儚い瞬間が日常的な場所をまるで映画のような質感にするのか、作者の視線はそこに引き寄せられている。

Romain Laprade has built a photographic language that feels both precise and instinctive.
