「本当につくりたい人が諦める必要がないように、導き、励まし、ヒントを与える有用なツールになることを願っています。」 —— NEUTRAL COLORS『How to Book in Japan』 (2023年、Note from the Editors)
“Working mainly in portrait, documentary, and editorial photography.”
This documentary photobook records the year-long process of creating a single book, using photographer Shin Hamada’s profile as its starting point. The process itself becomes the content of the book. Hamada works across a wide range of media, including objects and video as well as photography. Through this book, his motivations and methods for making things are made visible in a self-referential way. This book is the second collaboration between Hamada and the design studio Tanuki, following ”Rock, Paper, Wind“ (2020).
“We hope this will be a useful tool that guides, encourages, and offers hints, so that people who truly want to create don’t have to give up.” —— from NEUTRAL COLORS, ”How to Book in Japan“ (2023, Note from the Editors)
