オランダ・アムステルダムを拠点に2015年に創刊されたデザインマガジン『MacGuffin』。本誌は毎号ひとつの「ありふれたもの」をテーマに、その背景にある文化的、歴史的、あるいは個人的な物語などを探求したデザイン雑誌です。私たちを取り巻くデザインと、私たちを結ぶ無数の関係性について焦点を当て、各号はひとつのオブジェクトをテーマに制作されてます。

第12号のテーマは『The Log』。木材をめぐるデザインと政治性を探求するために森へと歩みを進めます。グロンマ川を流れ下ったノルウェー最後の丸太から、アマゾンのマッピングを支える先住民の丸太、さらにはジャマイカのレースバークの木からオンラインのチャットボットにいたるまで、トーテム、デザインツール、神託、ワームホール、コミカルなキャラクター、アクティビストによるアート作品、村の案内人（あるいは道化）、監獄、航海日誌（ログブック）、悪夢、そして夢として機能する丸太（ログ）たちに出会います。

‘The Log’ takes a walk in the woods to explore the design and politics of timber. From the last Norwegian trunks that floated down the Glomma to the indigenous logs that help map the Amazon, and from Jamaican lacebark trees to online chatbots, meet the logs that function as totems, design tools, oracles, wormholes, comic figures, activist artworks, village idiots, prison cells, logbooks, nightmares, and dreams.
