The Best Dutch Book Designs 2024

オランダでその年に出版された最も優れたブックデザインを選出するアワード「The Best Dutch Book Designs」。このカタログは、制作を担当するデザイナーが年鑑ごとに異なり、その年のブックデザインをどう捉え記録するべきか、毎年コンセプトから記録写真、デザインまでが異なる設計で製作されています。

2024年度版カタログのデザインを手がけたのは、自身もアンネ・ジーネ（Anne Geene）らとともに出版社〈Blind Finch Books〉を運営するグラフィックデザイナー、ジェレミー・ヤンセン（Jeremy Jansen）です。今年度のカタログにおいてヤンセンが参照したのは、1970年代に刊行された名著『The Fairburn System of Visual References』でした。人物や動作をあらゆる角度から撮影し、膨大な写真で埋め尽くしたこのリファレンスブックと同様に、ヤンセンはこのカタログを本という立体物が持つ質感を多角的に記録・解剖することを試みています。

NPN Printingやrobstolkなど、オランダが誇る複数の印刷会社と製本会社が協働して製作した本書そのものの造本も、同国のブックデザイン文化の成熟度を示す仕上がりとなっています。

"The Best Dutch Book Designs" is an annual award honoring the finest book designs published in the Netherlands. A unique feature of the accompanying catalog is that a different designer is appointed each year. Consequently, every edition features a distinct concept, photography style, and layout, reflecting a fresh perspective on how to document and interpret that year's winning designs.


The 2024 edition was designed by Jeremy Jansen, a graphic designer who also co-runs the publishing house Blind Finch Books alongside Anne Geene. For this year’s catalog, Jansen drew inspiration from the 1970s classic, The Fairburn System of Visual References. Much like that reference book—which was densely packed with photographs capturing human figures and movements from every conceivable angle—Jansen attempts to anatomize the winning books. He treats them as three-dimensional objects, meticulously recording and dissecting their textures and physical presence from multiple viewpoints.


Produced through a collaboration between renowned Dutch printing companies (such as NPN Printing and robstolk®) and binders, the physical production of this catalog itself stands as a testament to the sophistication and maturity of Dutch book design culture.
