This is the 18th issue of the magazine WERK, created in collaboration with artist Keiichi Tanaami. Resembling a comprehensive art book, this single volume features over 200 of the artist's works across approximately 300 pages. After seeing drawings made with pastels and crayons at Tanaami's studio, creative director Theseus Chan attempted to interpret the artist's world through materiality.
For this book, the cover is not printed but is instead hand-colored using various powdered pigments like chalk, crayon, granite, and pastel, applied with such density that the color transfers to your fingers upon touch. The text is rendered using the frottage technique.
It is said that Keiichi Tanaami was initially concerned that the pigment powder would stain the reader's hands and clothes, but Theseus aimed to realize an "organic book" that would continue to evolve as the reader's fingertips turned the pages. The result is a volume akin to a piece of art, born from the relationship of mutual trust between the two creators. Limited edition of 1000 copies.
