Published to coincide with an exhibition at Ginza Graphic Gallery, this is the 20th issue of WERK magazine. This edition compiles details from past issues, magnifying the minutiae of printed matter that often go unnoticed by the naked eye—from the structure of the binding and ink stains to halftone dots and paper fibres. By enlarging these elements to their limits, it re-presents the material beauty inherent in the medium of the book.
Issue No. 9, a 2004 collaboration with Adidas Originals, was released with a cover designed to look as though it had been torn and repaired with adhesive tape. Since then, WERK has consistently found allure in incidental forms such as ageing and damage. The details from these various issues are brought together in this 20th edition.
This issue itself was published with intentionally applied imperfections, including folds, tears, and sun-fading.
