The unfinished works in this publication examine the eternal legacy of thought, conception and architecture, and the ideas modelled by its power and poetic expression. The texts that make up the first volume were written by people familiar with Siza and his work, adding memory, analysis and lived experience. The selection of texts by the architect himself highlights not only his chosen unfinished projects, but also his vision and approach as an architect, designer and even sculptor.
‘It is hard to not build what was done out of the enthusiasm and the enjoyment of being an architect. But that is not "wasted time". The hours spent in projects that end up being abandoned are not "wasted time". In each one something is discovered or invented of which the fragmented remains move through the construction of the others. There is a permanent and unpredicted dialogue between the projects of each architect, even if very different, nurturing the ones that follow. And the sorrow comes undone.’ ーÁlvaro Siza
