ベルギー出身の写真家、ヤン・ケンペナール（Jan Kempenaers）による作品集。旧ユーゴスラビア各地に建設された巨大な戦争記念碑「スポメニック」を捉えた『Spomenik』（Roma Publications, 2010）において、作家は歴史的な曖昧さの中に佇む未来的なフォルムを浮き彫りにしました。それから歳月を経て、ケンペナールは再びこの地を訪れ、クロアチア、ボスニア・ヘルツェゴビナ、モンテネグロ、北マケドニア、セルビア、スロベニアに点在する、数え切れないほどの中小規模な記念碑を撮影しています。地図にも載っていないようなモニュメントを自ら探し出すというプロセスを経て記録されたこれらの写真は、作家の眼差しが、記念碑的なアイコンから地域の片隅で持続する記憶へと移行したことを示唆しています。草木に埋もれ、あるいは住宅街に静かに佇むその姿は、かつてのユーゴスラビアの多様な地形において、いかにして記憶が日常の風景の中に留まり続けているかを静かに伝えています。デザインはロジャー・ヴィレムス（Roger Willems）による。 

Jan Kempenaers (BE, 1968), has photographed urban and natural landscapes since the mid-1980s. Between 2016 and 2025, he documented these brutalist war monuments of socialist Yugoslavia. Initially capturing large “Spomeniks”over twenty years ago, his early work highlighted their futuristic forms amidst historical ambiguity. Recently, Kempenaers returned to photograph countless smaller, local memorials across Croatia, Bosnia-Herzegovina, Montenegro, North Macedonia, Serbia, and Slovenia. Often nondescript, locating these scattered sites became integral to the project. His evolving focus shifts from monumental icons to humble markers, revealing how memory persists in everyday landscapes throughout the former Yugoslavia’s diverse terrain. Design: Roger Willems.
