This is the type specimen for Riforma, a typeface by Norm, the influential Swiss design studio at the forefront of contemporary graphic design.
The story of Riforma began in 2011, when Norm discovered a set of documents from a mysterious, circa-1972 corporation in an antiquarian bookstore in Northern Italy. Within these papers lay dormant a series of beautiful logotypes and typeface designs for an unrealized and forgotten project.
Norm revived this nameless typeface as a contemporary tool, naming it "Riforma" in homage to the project that never came to be. It was first used in the 2012 publication 800 Views of Airports by the Swiss artist duo Fischli & Weiss.
Featuring a text by Robin Kinross—the British typography historian and designer also known for his work with his own Hyphen Press—this book explores both the rich narrative behind the typeface and its practical possibilities.
