A two-volume set on the work of architect Kazuo Shinohara, pairing a selection of his architectural works with a collection of his travel photographs.
The first volume, Works, features representative projects such as "White House" (1966) and "House with an Earthen Floor" (1963). It also includes "Umbrella House" (1962). Each project is presented with photographs, drawings, and an accompanying text by Shinohara himself. The second volume, Streets and Figures, contains a selection of photographs from the architect's archive of over 10,000 images, taken during his travels through Europe, Africa, and the Americas in the 1970s and 80s. Together, they reveal the essence of Shinohara's gaze, which was consistently directed towards human activity and its traces.
This set was published in 2007 as part of the artist's book series by the Center for Contemporary Art, CCA Kitakyushu. The publication concludes with the proceedings of Shinohara's last public lecture, held in Kitakyushu. Text in Japanese and English.
